On 8 July 2021, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (the EEA EFTA States) and the United Kingdom (UK) signed a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA). The FTA entered into force in Liechtenstein, Norway and the UK on 1 September 2022 and in Iceland on 1 February 2023. Find the text of the EEA EFTA-UK Free Trade Agreement here.
The bilateral trade agreement between Switzerland and the UK has been in operation since 1 January 2021. On 13 July 2026, the two countries have concluded negotiations on a comprehensive, modernised free trade agreement, which will replace the existing agreement upon entry into force. The EEA EFTA-UK agreement entered into force on 1 September 2022 for Liechtenstein, Norway and the United Kingdom, and on 1 February 2023 for Iceland.
This Swiss-UK trade agreement includes provisions on trade in goods – including provisions on preferential tariffs, tariff rate quotas, non-tariff measures including sanitary and phytosanitary measures; intellectual property, including geographical indications; and government procurement.
