To make EEA law easier to navigate and use, the EFTA Secretariat is conducting a pilot project to explore how AI‑based tools can support the consolidation of EEA legal acts. Using the Treyst.ai platform, the project aims to produce consolidated texts including the original legal act, subsequent amendments and all relevant specific adaptations incorporated into the EEA Agreement. The consolidation does not currently include horizontal or sectoral adaptations.

The pilot began on 15 January 2026 and will run for a period of six months. During this time, the EFTA Secretariat will publish selected consolidated EEA acts on its website, offering users a clearer and more transparent overview of how an act applies in the EEA at a given point in time. The consolidated versions are provided for information purposes only and have no legal value. For authentic legal texts, users should always consult EEA-Lex.

The project builds on established practice, including the Legal note - Guidelines for Drafting Adaptation Texts for JCDs.pdf. By exploring new tools and formats, the Secretariat seeks to strengthen consistency and make working with EEA law more efficient.

Disclaimer

The documents are created using an AI-tool and errors may occur. In general, older acts and EEA Joint Committee Decisions are drafted in a style and format that may not allow for a fully accurate consolidation. Acts containing tables or images may not be correctly rendered in the consolidated versions.

To continuously improve the service, the Secretariat is reviewing all consolidated acts. Any feedback from users is welcome and may be given using the form below.

Users are also encouraged to request consolidated versions of specific acts which we will try to accommodate to the extent possible.
