        Statistical Cooperation

Statistics play a fundamental role in planning, developing and monitoring the economic, social and environmental aspects of the European Single Market. The EFTA Statistical Office (ESO) is the liaison office between the EFTA National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) and Eurostat – the statistical office of the European Union. Cooperation between the EFTA NSIs, Eurostat and ESO, particularly in the context of the EEA Agreement, and technical cooperation with partner countries outside the European Statistical System remain the two main areas of ESO’s activities.

FAQs

What is the official working language of EFTA?

In their daily work, staff members communicate and work in English. However, when walking the hallways of the Secretariat you can expect to hear many different languages being spoken, since colleagues of the same nationality often talk to each other in their first language.

If I get a job at EFTA and move to one of EFTA’s duty stations, where can I find information on housing, childcare, etc.?

If you are offered a job at EFTA, we will send you a handbook with helpful information and tips relating to the duty station in question.

Does EFTA only hire lawyers?

No, EFTA hires people from all kinds of professions, with various educational backgrounds.

Is it possible to work remotely for EFTA?

It is not possible to work fully remotely for EFTA. However, our policies around hybrid working allow staff to work from home a few days a week, if conditions allow.

Does EFTA offer good training and development opportunities?

We believe we do, and all staff members are entitled to attend both internal and external training, as well as language classes. Part of staff members’ learning and development opportunities is also learning on the job, with the support of great colleagues.

Does working at EFTA require a lot of travel?

That depends on the position. Some staff members travel quite a lot due to their assignments, while other staff members never or hardly ever travel for their work.

Can you describe EFTA’s workplace culture, what is it like to work for EFTA?

According to staff members' responses to our annual workplace survey, the things they like most about working for EFTA are the great colleagues they work with, the atmosphere in general and the engagement of co-workers.

We also have all kinds of EFTA traditions, like our annual staff seminar, where colleagues come together for a workshop, teambuilding and fun activities, and
our summer party, Christmas party, Eurovision nights and more.
