EFTA and Canada hold fifth Joint Committee meeting under Free Trade Agreement
On 28 May 2026, delegations from the EFTA States and Canada met by videoconference for their fifth Joint Committee meeting under the EFTA–Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which entered into force in 2009.
Sveinn K. Einarsson, Director of Trade Policy and FTAs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, acted as the EFTA spokesperson. Dean Foster, Director of the Intellectual Property, Digital Economy and Innovation Division at Global Affairs Canada, headed the Canadian delegation.
The Joint Committee exchanged information on economic developments in the EFTA States and Canada, as well as on recent developments in external trade relations on both sides. Delegations also reviewed the functioning of the EFTA–Canada FTA and discussed prospects for its modernisation, including the possible scope and next steps.
