EEA Joint Committee incorporates acts on Financial Services and Transport
On 23 October, the EEA Joint Committee adopted 30 Joint Committee Decisions, incorporating 41 legal acts into the EEA Agreement.
The Joint Committee President, Liechtenstein Ambassador Pascal Schafhauser, highlighted the good progress made in the areas of financial services and transport, where several acts were being incorporated into the EEA Agreement.
Among these acts, the President emphasised two in the field of financial services that would further strengthen the EEA cooperation and preserve the homogeneity of the Internal Market: First, Directive (EU) 2025/2 on amending the Solvency II framework, which contributes to a strong and resilient insurance sector while encouraging investment and economic growth across Europe; and second, Regulation (EU) 2025/2075, which shortens the settlement cycle for securities trading to support more efficient, resilient and competitive European capital markets.
During the meeting, the EU and EEA EFTA delegations also held their fourth tri-monthly consultations on safeguard measures regarding imports of certain ferro-alloying elements.
This marked the final meeting of the Joint Committee ahead of the 63rd EEA Council – the highest body of cooperation under the EEA Agreement, during which the EEA EFTA States and the EU will convene at Ministerial level on 17 November at EFTA House.
The next EEA Joint Committee meeting will be held at EFTA House on 10 December 2026.
