On 24 and 25 October 2022, trade experts from EFTA Member States gathered in Brussels to discuss the latest findings and perspectives on the analysis of the effective use of EFTA’s free trade agreements (FTAs).

Experts from the European Commission, the World Trade Organisation, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Trade Centre, the National Board of Trade Sweden and the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency also joined the workshop for some sessions.

Discussions covered a wide range of topics, such as data collection, the collaboration between international organisations, qualitative and quantitative research on the use of FTAs, the impact of rules of origin on preference utilisation, and engagement with both domestic stakeholders and international partners.

EFTA experts also discussed the expansion and improvement of the current EFTA FTA Monitor, published for the first time on 15 June 2022. The EFTA FTA Monitor provides an overview and general insights into the use of the tariff preferences in existing FTAs between the EFTA States and their partner countries worldwide.

EFTA’s FTA Monitor is available in a dedicated section of the EFTA website.
