The EFTA Statistical Office welcomed the trainees from the EFTA Secretariat, the FMO - EEA and Norway Grants and the EFTA Court. It was the occasion to get to know better the institutions located in the city of Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The agenda was the visit of the EFTA Statistical Office, EFTA Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union, which are also located in Luxembourg.

After the visit of the EFTA Court, the trainees visited Eurostat, the Directorate-General of the European Commission, where also ESO has its offices. ESO deals with statistical cooperation within and outside the framework of the EEA Agreement and collaborates closely with Eurostat in the context of the European Statistical System (ESS) and in the area of statistical technical cooperation with third countries. The main objective is to promote and ensure the inclusion of the EFTA States in the ESS which is a network of the national statistical authorities from the EU and the EFTA countries, aiming at the harmonization of Official Statistics. As statistics play a fundamental role in policies and the European Single Market, for example, we need a coordinated production of statistics across time and space like the ESS and Eurostat.

After the general presentation about ESO’s activities from Volker Täube (ESO director), Marius Andersen (ESO Deputy) and Ambre Crettenand (ESO Trainee), the trainees continued their visit at the Court of Justice of the European Union, where they attended a hearing at the Court of Justice and visited the building.
