
EFTA/UNECE Webinars on Climate Change-related Statistics for EECCA countries

The EFTA Statistical Office (ESO) jointly organized with the United Nations Economics Commission for Europe (UNECE), in collaboration with the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan and UNESCAP, the online webinar on Climate Change-related Statistics for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) countries. This webinar is following the first webinar held in November 2020 that focused on climate change-related indicators and their alignment with global policy frameworks
Volker Täube, the Director of ESO, opened the event along with his colleagues from UNECE and from the (Head of Administration) of the national statistical committee of Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the webinar was to raise awareness about knowledge on producing and using climate change-related statistics and indicators.
The first day focused on development of national climate change-related indicators and to use these in policy making. In fact National statistical systems continue to face increasing demands for producing climate change related statistics. There is also a higher understanding of the importance of mitigating climate change at the policy level. National Statistical Institutes from Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Nepal shared their experiences on the development of national sets of climate change-related indicators and what challenges they faced.
The second day was more specific on indicators on energy and emissions from the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). National Statistical Institutes from Luxembourg, Italy, Mongolia and Australian shared their experiences with such indicators from SEEA.
The sessions were supported by English and Russian simultaneous interpretation.
