EFTA–Indonesia: EFTA Secretary-General meets with Indonesian Vice Minister of Trade
On 17 September 2025, EFTA Secretary-General Kurt Jäger received the Vice Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, at the EFTA Secretariat in Geneva to discuss trade relations under the EFTA–Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The CEPA was signed in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 16 December 2018 and entered into force on 1 November 2021. The first Sub- and Joint Committee meetings were held in Jakarta on 6 and 7 December 2022.
The Secretary-General commended the good trade relations between the EFTA States and Indonesia, underlining that implementation of the CEPA was progressing well. The second Sub- and Joint Committee meetings, planned for 2026, would provide the EFTA States and Indonesia with another opportunity to further improve trade relations. The discussion addressed the current state of trade flows and potential sectors for increased collaboration, and focused on how the parties could facilitate and maximise the use of trade preferences under the agreement.
In 2024, total merchandise trade between the EFTA States and Indonesia was valued at around EUR 1.3 billion, with EFTA’s exports to Indonesia amounting to EUR 631 million and imports from Indonesia to the EFTA States reaching EUR 666 million. EFTA’s primary exports to Indonesia in 2024 included machinery and mechanical appliances, pharmaceutical products, organic chemicals, mineral fuels, and optical and medical instruments. EFTA’s imports from Indonesia in 2024 were largely composed of footwear, woven apparel and accessories, electrical machinery, knitted apparel and accessories, and coffee, tea, maté and spices.
