EFTA–Moldova free trade agreement now in force for all Parties

The EFTA–Moldova Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed on 27 June 2023 in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Switzerland and Liechtenstein complete their internal procedures for the entry into force on 1 April 2025. The agreement, which has already been in effect in Moldova, Iceland and Norway since 1 November 2024, aims to enhance economic cooperation, facilitate trade between the EFTA States and Moldova and strengthen political ties.
The ambitious and broad-based FTA covers trade in goods and services, investment, intellectual property rights, government procurement, trade facilitation, competition and sustainable development. Notably, the agreement features a dedicated chapter on electronic commerce, aligning with EFTA’s approach to modern digital trade rules. With this agreement, businesses from all the EFTA States and Moldova will benefit from improved market access and legal certainty when trading with each other, fostering greater economic partnership between the Parties. Over the last five years, two-way merchandise trade between the EFTA States and Moldova has increased by more than 38%, reaching a value of EUR 87 million.
