Simon Wüthrich-Bovet, Senior Officer in EFTA’s Trade Relations Division, presenting on how free trade agreements support SMEs in accessing global markets.
On 7 March 2025, the EFTA Secretariat participated in an event hosted by the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes in Geneva, focusing on global market opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups.
The session brought together over 130 local business leaders and provided valuable insights into market access strategies and regulatory considerations for international trade.
Presentations explored key economic trends, regulatory frameworks and the role of free trade agreements in supporting internationalisation. The EFTA Secretariat shared how FTAs serve as comprehensive partnership agreements, require rigorous implementation to maximise their benefits, and help businesses access new markets by reducing trade barriers and offering preferential conditions.
The EFTA Secretariat also emphasised the importance of leveraging these agreements to enhance competitiveness and navigate global trade challenges, including through dedicated SME chapters, such as in agreements with Chile and Thailand.
