In a joint session of the EFTA Parliamentary and Consultative Committees on 22 November, EFTA parliamentarians and social partner representatives heard a presentation on the draft Single Market Act.

Ms Pamela Brumter, Head of Unit in DG Internal Market and Services gave a thorough presentation of the Act, providing analyses of the rationale behind the initiative, an overview of the 50 proposals contained in the Act, as well as information on the next steps for the initiative.

Following approval by the European Council and the European Parliament in early 2011, the Act will constitute the Commission's action plan for the Single Market in the coming years. The goal is that the proposals contained in the Act are adopted by the end of 2012 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Single Market.
