Delegations from the EFTA States and Canada noted with satisfaction the good functioning of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which has been in force since July 2009.

In preparation for the Joint Committee, experts on customs and origin matters and trade in goods had reviewed the implementation of the FTA in a dedicated Subcommittee meeting.

The parties discussed the possibility of deepening their relationship by extending the FTA, notably in the areas of trade in services, investment and government procurement. They concurred to further explore such extension at the level of experts in the near future.

The EFTA team was headed by Ambassador Kristinn Árnason from Iceland, while Mr Bruce Christie, Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada in Geneva, led the Canadian delegation.
