EFTA and Ukraine hold fifth round of free trade negotiations

The fifth round of negotiations on a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the EFTA States and Ukraine took place from 27 to 30 April 2010 in Kyiv. Several parts of the FTA were completed.
The round allowed for the finalisation of legal texts and specific commitments in the areas of trade in services, investment, intellectual property rights, rules of origin, trade facilitation, horizontal provisions and dispute settlement.
Further work will be required on certain aspects of trade in industrial products, including fish, on trade in agricultural products, and with respect to government procurement. The parties agreed to pursue their efforts with high priority, with the objective of completing the negotiating process in the first half of the year.
As in previous rounds, the two negotiating teams were led by Deputy Minister of Economy, Valeriy Pyatnitskiy, for Ukraine, and by Ambassador Kristinn Árnason, Iceland, on the EFTA side.
