On 20 September the EFTA Council met under the Chairmanship of Switzerland, which holds the rotating EFTA Council Chair in the second half of the year. The Council reviewed relations with a number of countries outside the European Union, including several prospective new free trade partners. The Council approved funding for an EFTA-Serbia export promotion seminar later this year, and approved a number of financing agreements between EFTA and European standardisation organisations.

The Council reviewed the results of the negotiating rounds with India and Hong Kong, China, all held in August, as well as the Joint Committee meeting with the Palestinian Authority in September.

The Council approved funding for an EFTA-Serbia technical cooperation project, an export promotion seminar, to be held later this year around the time of the entry into force of the EFTA-Serbia Free Trade Agreement, which was signed in December 2009.
Finally, the Council approved a number of joint financing agreements between EFTA and European standardisation organisations, notably the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC).
