Negotiations on a broad-based Free Trade Agreement between the EFTA States (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and Ukraine were continued on 3-5 November 2009 in Geneva.
The EFTA-Ukraine negotiations had been launched in April 2009. During the third round, further substantial headway was made by all groups of experts.
The areas covered during the round included: Trade in Industrial and Agricultural Products; Fish; Technical Barriers to Trade; Rules of Origin; Trade Facilitation; Trade in Services; Investment; Competition; Government Procurement; and Institutional provisions. Experts on Intellectual Property Rights had convened in the previous week.
The negotiating teams were led by Ambassador Kristinn F. Árnason from Iceland, on the EFTA side, and Deputy Minister of Economy Valeriy Pyatnytskiy, for Ukraine. The Parties agreed to meet again in February 2010 in Kyiv.
