EFTA and Thailand Heads of delegation continue to discuss the resumption of free trade agreement negotiations
Heads of delegation from the EFTA States and Thailand met via videoconference on 14 March 2022 to discuss the resumption of negotiations towards a free trade agreement (FTA).
Ambassador Markus Schlagenhof, Delegate of the Federal Council for Trade Agreements and head of the World Trade Division at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs was the EFTA spokesperson, while Ms Auramon Supthaweethum, Director General of the Department of Trade Negotiations headed Thailand’s delegation.
Heads of delegation continued exchanges on the scope of the negotiations as well as on the next steps towards their resumption.
Discussions were constructive and parties made progress on the remaining steps required to resume FTA negotiations.
Bilateral trade between EFTA and Thailand amounted to USD 3 billion in 2019 and USD 2.6 billion in 2020.
