
EFTA and Indonesia pursue negotiations on Economic Partnership Agreement

A fruitful third round of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the EFTA States and Indonesia was conducted on 1-4 November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia.
During the round, most parts of the draft Agreement were discussed by fourteen dedicated expert groups and significant ground was covered, including on technical cooperation between the two sides. Delegations agreed on a detailed programme of work in of the next round of negotiations, scheduled to be held in March 2012.
EFTA’s negotiating team was led by Ambassador Didier Chambovey from Switzerland, while Ambassador Soemadi DM Brotoningrat headed the Indonesian delegation.
In 2010, two-way merchandise trade between the EFTA States and Indonesia amounted to USD 865 million. EFTA’s exports reached USD 560 million, with machinery and pharmaceuticals as the main categories. Indonesia primarily exported ships and boats to the EFTA States, as well as footwear and apparel. Investors from the EFTA States have a significant presence in Indonesia.
