The EFTA Council met on 15 March for its second meeting in 2011 under the Liechtenstein Chair­man­ship. The EFTA-Eurostat Technical Co­operation Programme was adopted. The agenda also included EFTA’s recent activities with countries outside the European Union, notably India and Jordan.

The Council adopted the EFTA-Eurostat Cooperation Programme for 2011 in the field of statistics, which includes a variety of training courses for statisticians from countries ranging from the Western Balkans to South America.

The Council also reviewed EFTA’s recent activities with countries outside the European Union, including the seventh round of free trade negotiations with India, which took place in New Delhi from 15 to 18 February and allowed for significant progress, particularly with respect to trade in goods.

The Council further discussed the Joint Committee meeting held in Amman on 22 and 23 February under the EFTA-Jordan Free Trade Agreement. An Export Promotion Seminar, organised jointly by EFTA, the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Jordanian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, was held at the occasion, attended by over 50 representatives from Jordan’s public and private sectors.

The next Council meeting will take place on 10 May 2011.
