
EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee adopts three resolutions in Strasbourg

Members of the European Parliament and Parliamentarians from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway met in Strasbourg on 26 October 2011 at the 37th meeting of the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee
Under the presidency of Mr Svein Roald Hansen (MP, Labour Party, Norway), President of the EEA JPC, with Vice-President Mr Pat the Cope Gallagher (MEP, ALDE, Ireland), the Joint Parliamentary Committee adopted unanimously three resolutions, namely on the EU Digital Agenda and the EEA, the EEA and Norwegian Grants: Contributing to the Social and Economic Cohesion in Europe, and the European Refund Scheme for Drinks Containers. In relation to the latter, the EEA JPC is undertaking an initiative to introduce a refund system for drinks containers in the European Economic Area.

The Committee also received briefings and statements on the functioning of and developments in the EEA Agreement from representatives of the decision-making bodies of the EEA: the EEA Council and EEA Joint Committee.
Members of the Swiss Parliament attended the meeting as observers.
The next EEA JPC meeting is scheduled to take place in Iceland from 2 to 4 May 2012.
