The EEA EFTA Ambassadors at the EEA Joint Committee meeting in EFTA House, Brussels.
On 25 October, the EEA Joint Committee held its seventh meeting of the year at EFTA House in Brussels.
The meeting was presided over by Norway’s Ambassador and EFTA Chair, Mr Anders H. Eide. Mr Nicolas von Lingen from the Secretariat-General of the European Commission co-chaired the meeting on behalf of the EU.
In the meeting, the EEA Joint Committee incorporated 37 legal acts into the EEA Agreement through 23 Joint Committee Decisions. The list of acts for adoption included several files in the areas of financial services, foodstuffs, transport, veterinary issues and statistics.
An important act protecting consumer health and safety incorporated in the meeting was Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foods, and repealing Regulation (EC) No 282/2008. As recycled plastic can be contaminated during processing if it comes into contact with other substances such as waste, the regulation ensures the safety and quality of recycled plastic related to food packaging.
The EEA Joint Committee is responsible for the management of the EEA Agreement, and is a forum in which views are exchanged and decisions taken by consensus to incorporate EU legislation into the EEA Agreement. The Committee comprises the Ambassadors of the EEA EFTA States and representatives of the Secretariat-General of the European Commission.
The next Joint Committee meeting will take place on 6 December 2024.
