On 28 May, the EEA 30-Year Anniversary Conference took place at the Merode in Brussels. 180 people attended in person and another hundred followed the discussions online.
Since entering into force in 1994, the hashtagthe EEA Agreement has created opportunities and fostered cooperation and solutions for citizens and businesses across the 30 EEA States.
"That causes for celebration. To pause, look at what has been achieved, celebrate - and then get going again," said Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager, in the EEA 30-Year Anniversary video that kicked off the conference.
The event was divided into two high-level panel discussions between the EEA EFTA Foreign Ministers Dominique Hasler, Thordis Kolbrun Gylfadottir and Espen Barth Eide, the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib, representing the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, and EVP of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič, moderated by EU Affairs Correspondent Maria Tadeo.
Former Prime Minister of Italy and President of the Jacques Delors Institute Enrico Letta and Director of Carnegie Europe Rosa Balfour delivered keynote addresses on the future of the internal market and on wider European cooperation in a challenging geopolitical context.
The EFTA Secretariat expresses its gratitude to all speakers and participants for making the conference a memorable celebration of the EEA cooperation's past achievements and future prospects.
