Seminars

The EFTA Secretariat in Brussels organises a biannual seminar on the EEA and EFTA. The aim of the seminar is to provide professionals with a thorough overview of the EEA, including its structure and procedures.

It also focuses on current issues driving the future development of the EEA, such as the EEA financial mechanisms and future perspectives for EFTA and the EEA.
In addition to the EEA EFTA seminars, EFTA regularly organises and/or contributes to other EEA related seminars and workshops. Below you will find an overview of recent events.

  • EFTA Seminar on the EEA: The role of the EEA in a multi-speed Europe    22.03.2013

    Mr Jean-Claude Piris, former Director-General of the Legal Service of the Council of the European Union, was the keynote speaker at EFTA’s seminar on the EEA: The role of the EEA in a multi-speed Europe. The event, which took place at the EFTA Secretariat on 21 March 2013, was attended by approximately 130 participants from both the public and private sectors across the EEA.

  • EFTA Seminar on the EEA: The evolution of the Single Market and the EEA Agreement – 20 years on    14.09.2012

    Approximately 120 participants from both the public and private sectors in the EEA met at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels on 13-14 September 2012 for the biannual seminar on the EEA.

  • EFTA Seminar – presentation of the report by the Norwegian EEA Review Committee    20.01.2012

    On 19 January 2012, a record 170 participants from both the public and private sectors attended the EFTA Secretariat’s biannual seminar on the EEA. The first part of the seminar was dedicated to presentations on the EFTA Secretariat, the EFTA Court, the EFTA Surveillance Authority, the EFTA Statistical Office and the EFTA Financial Mechanism Office. These focused on the day-to-day management of the EEA Agreement in the different institutions’ respective areas of competence.

    On 9 and 10 June 2011, around 90 participants from both the public and private sectors in the EEA met at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels for its biannual seminar on the EEA.

  • EEA Seminar: The Single Market Towards 2020    17.12.2010

    Participants from both the public and private sectors met at the Secretariat in Brussels 16 and 17 December 2010 for the biannual EFTA Seminar on the EEA.

    Participants from the public and private sectors met at the Secretariat in Brussels on 27 and 28 May 2010 for the biannual EFTA Seminar on the EEA.

  • EFTA seminar on employee involvement in times of crisis    12.03.2010

    The EFTA Working Group on Health and Safety at Work and Labour Law and the EFTA Consultative Committee met on 11 March 2010 to discuss employee involvement in times of crisis and restructuring. Against the backdrop of the current crisis the European Commission gave an overview of the current legal framework for information, consultation and involvement of employees. EU legislation in this field is part of the EEA Agreement.

    The EFTA Secretariat biannual seminar on the EEA Agreement in Brussels on 11-12 June was attended by almost 100 participants.

  • EFTA held a workshop on Certification and Marking    11.06.2008
    Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, EFTA Deputy Secretary-General, Vincent Merken, Chairman, Heinz Zourek, Secretary-General DG Enterprise, Tore Nyvold Thomassen, Project Manager & Chris Evans, Consultant for the Study.

    On 11 June 2008 EFTA, in co-operation with the European Commission and the European Parliament, held a workshop entitled "Certification and marking for Europe." Through presentations from many stakeholders and follow-up discussions, diverging opinions were expressed and views exchanged. The workshop was attended by 100 representatives of important stakeholders.

  • Seminar on Decision Shaping in the EEA    11.11.2005

    The EFTA Secretariat organised its seminar on Decision Shaping in the EEA on Friday 11 November 2005 in Brussels. The Seminar was targeted at representatives from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway who participate in the EU's expert groups and comitology committees. The aim of the Seminar was to allow EEA EFTA experts who participate in these committees to exchange ideas and best practice concerning participation in these meetings.
