On 7 and 8 May, EFTA held a technical cooperation seminar with Peru on sanitary measures in aquaculture. The Norwegian Veterinary Institute delivered training for experts from the National Fisheries Health Agency (SANIPES) in Peru. One of SANIPES’ functions is to assure and improve the health status of the country’s aquatic resources. It proposes national policies with respect to aquaculture health, and regulates the activity through the development of health regulations.

Presentations were given on topics such as surveillance, zonification, animal welfare, antimicrobial resistance and others in order to strengthen the capacity of the Peruvian specialists and Peru’s health management of the aquaculture industry.

Approximately 30 experts from Peru participated in the online event.

The event is part of EFTA’s technical cooperation programme aimed at facilitating the implementation of EFTA’s free trade agreements (FTAs). The activities are governed by the EFTA Council Guidelines on Technical Cooperation (Decision No 5 of 2011) and cover a series of programmes and projects funded under the Association’s budget.
