EFTA and Russia pursue preparations for free trade negotiations

Building on the recommendations of a Joint Study Group endorsed by Ministers of the EFTA States and the Russian Federation, preparations for negotiations on a broad based Free Trade Agreement proceeded in meetings from 26 to 28 May 2010 in Geneva.

EFTA-Russia Study positive on possible Free Trade Agreement

Ministers of the EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) and the Russian Federation have taken note of the report by a Joint Study Group on the feasibility of a Free Trade Agreement between both sides. A summary of the report has now been released.

EFTA and the Russian Federation agree on a Joint Study Group to examine closer trade and investment cooperation

The EFTA States and Russia have agreed on a Record of Understanding establishing a Joint Russia-EFTA Study Group to examine closer trade and investment relations. For practical reasons the document was signed today (4 December) in Moscow by the Russian Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Ms. Elvira Nabiullina, and the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Dag Terje Andersen; and in Geneva on 2 December by the Icelandic Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladottir, the Swiss Federal Councillor of the Department on Economic Affairs, Ms. Doris Leuthard, and Liechtenstein’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Rita Kieber-Beck.
