• 20 years of the European Economic Area   01.01.2014

    In 2014, the European Economic Area (EEA) celebrates its 20th anniversary. The EEA brings together the EU Member States and the three EEA EFTA States — Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway — in the Internal Market. The general consensus is that the EEA Agreement is working as intended, although the dynamic nature of the European Union poses specific challenges to it.

    On 20 December 2013, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway initialled the agreement on the participation of Croatia in the European Economic Area (EEA), together with representatives of Croatia and the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels.

    The second regulatory package on the Single European Sky was among the 48 legal acts adopted by the EEA Joint Committee at its meeting on 13 December 2013.

    The EEA EFTA States have submitted comments to the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament on the proposal for a regulation on information accompanying transfers of funds.

  • Agreement on enlargement of the EEA   20.11.2013

    Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway signed agreed minutes of the negotiations on the enlargement of the Agreement of the European Economic Area (EEA) with Croatia and the European External Action Service in Brussels on 20 November 2013. Once the signatory parties have completed their necessary procedures, the agreement will be signed and applied provisionally.

    At the 40th EEA Council meeting, which took place on 18 November 2013, the EEA EFTA States and the European Union discussed the functioning of the EEA Agreement and a framework for a 2030 climate and energy policy.

    The EEA EFTA States have submitted comments to the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament on the proposal for a Directive on certain rules governing actions for damages under the national law for infringements of the competition law provision of the Member States and of the European Union.

    New rules restricting the use of mercury in measuring instruments were among the 49 legal acts adopted by the EEA Joint Committee at its meeting of 8 November 2013.

    The EEA EFTA States have submitted comments to the European Parliament on the Commission’s proposal for a regulation laying down measures concerning the European single market for electronic communications and to achieve a Connected Continent.

  • Parliamentarians adopt resolutions on citizens’ rights and Arctic policy   28.10.2013
