On 13 February, around 150 participants from both the public and private sector gathered at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels for the biannual seminar on the European Economic Area (EEA).

Norwegian Chair prioritises reducing number of acts awaiting incorporation

The EFTA Standing Committee and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 6 and 7 February respectively. During the EEA Joint Committee meeting 27 decisions were adopted, incorporating 62 legal acts into the EEA Agreement.

Joint Committee incorporates record number of Decisions into the EEA Agreement in 2019

The EFTA Standing Committee and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 5 and 6 December respectively. The EEA Joint Committee adopted 56 decisions (JCDs), bringing the total number of JCDs to a record number in a single calendar year. The decisions, which were adopted ad referendum with the date of Friday 13 December, incorporate 109 legal acts into the EEA Agreement.

Successful seminar on the Two-Pillar Structure of the European Economic Area

On 15 November, the Icelandic Mission to the EU and the EFTA Secretariat organised a seminar on the two-pillar structure of the EEA Agreement. Around 100 delegates from various institutions of the EFTA States and the EU participated in the seminar.

The 52nd meeting of the EEA Council will take place on 19 November 2019 in Brussels. The EEA Council meets twice a year at ministerial level and provides political impetus for the development of the EEA Agreement.

EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meets for the first time after the European elections

The EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee (EEA JPC) convened in the Landtag, the Liechtenstein Parliament, in Vaduz on 30 October 2019. The members discussed Brexit, developments in the EEA Agreement, the composition of the European Parliament (EP), and their priorities after the European elections as well as the future of the Single Market.
