• EEA EFTA Comment on review of EU Macro-prudential Policy Framework   18.11.2016

    The EEA EFTA States have issued an EEA EFTA Comment addressing the European Commission’s public consultation on the review of the EU Macro-prudential Policy Framework. The consultation also raises the issue of revisions to the Regulation setting up the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB).

    At the 46th meeting of the EEA Council, held in Brussels on 15 November 2016, Ministers discussed cooperation within the European Economic Area, focusing on the importance of maintaining and further developing a homogeneous Internal Market as an engine for growth. An orientation debate was held on the European Commission’s new strategy for the Single Market, including the collaborative economy.

    On 14 November, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities met in Brussels to discuss ongoing developments in the European Economic Area, and adopted an opinion on education.

  • EEA EFTA Comment addressing geo-blocking   10.11.2016

    The EEA EFTA States issued today an EEA EFTA Comment addressing the European Commission’s proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on addressing geo-blocking and other forms of discrimination based on customers' nationality, place of residence or place of establishment within the internal market – COM(2016) 289.

  • EEA Joint Committee hears briefings on capital controls and TTIP   28.10.2016

    The EFTA Standing Committee and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 27 and 28 October 2016 respectively. The Joint Committee adopted nine decisions incorporating ten EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement.

    The biannual introductory seminar on the EEA will take place on Tuesday 7 February 2017 at the EFTA Secretariat's premises in Brussels.

  • Handbook on EEA EFTA procedures – 2nd edition   24.10.2016

    This second edition of the Handbook on the EEA EFTA procedures for incorporating EU acts into the EEA Agreement reflects changes made following the 2016 review, namely a reduction in the number of forms used for the processing of acts, and an updated list of categories of acts subject to the fast-track procedure. These changes apply from today, 24 October 2016.

  • Policy Seminar: Half in - half out of the the Banking Union   03.10.2016

    On 27 September 2016, the EFTA Secretariat organised a policy seminar focusing on how banking sector policy in the EEA EFTA States is affected by their full participation in the Internal Market in financial services, whilst being permanently excluded from the single currency and the Banking Union.

  • First package of acts on European Financial Supervisory Authorities incorporated into EEA Agreement   30.09.2016

    The EEA Joint Committee has today adopted nine decisions by written procedure incorporating 31 legal acts into the EEA Agreement, all relating to the European financial supervisory framework.

  • New means of dispute resolution for consumers and traders in the EEA   23.09.2016

    The EFTA Standing Committee and EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 22 and 23 September 2016 respectively. At the Joint Committee meeting, 32 decisions were adopted incorporating 53 EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement.
