• EEA Joint Committee incorporates Directive on Anti-Money Laundering   05.12.2018

    The Standing Committee of the EFTA States and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 4 and 5 December respectively. At the Joint Committee meeting, 39 decisions (JCDs) were adopted incorporating 59 EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement, including acts long outstanding such as the Omnibus II Directive and the fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive.

    On 20 November 2018, the EEA Council convened in Brussels for its 50th meeting to discuss recent developments under the EEA Agreement, as well as the European Pillar of Social Rights.

    On 19 November 2018, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway submitted a joint EEA EFTA Comment on the European Commission’s proposal for a Directive regarding better enforcement and modernisation of EU consumer protection rules. The Comment was addressed to the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission.

    The 50th EEA Council will take place on 20 November 2018 in Brussels. The EEA Council meets twice a year at ministerial level and provides political impetus for the development of the EEA Agreement.

    On 31 October 2018, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway submitted two joint EEA EFTA Comments. The Comments, concerning Horizon Europe and the Digital Europe programme, both for the period 2021-2027 were addressed to the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission.

    The Standing Committee of the EFTA States and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 25 and 26 October respectively. At the Joint Committee meeting, 13 decisions (JCDs) were adopted incorporating 21 EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement, including a Directive on the posting of workers.

    On 12 October 2018, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway submitted a joint EEA EFTA Comment on the European Commission’s revised proposal for a Directive on certain aspects concerning contracts for the sales of goods. The Comment was addressed to the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission.

    Standardisation is important for EFTA because it has contributed significantly to the development of the Single Market, removing technical barriers to trade and facilitating cross-border trade.

    The Standing Committee of the EFTA States and the EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 20 and 21 September respectively. At the Joint Committee meeting, 34 decisions (JCDs) were adopted incorporating 44 EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement. The EEA EFTA States also took the opportunity to raise two comments to the European External Action Service (EEAS).
