    The Subcommittees I-IV met on 5 March 2013 with the European External Action Service (EEAS) and discussed the state of play of acts being considered for incorporation into the EEA Agreement, parliamentary procedures for adopted EEA Joint Committee Decisions and a number of draft EEA Joint Committee Decisions currently under discussion with the EU.

  • Improve copyright management without creating administrative burdens   22.02.2013

    In an EEA EFTA Comment on a Commission proposal for a directive on the collective management of copyright, including licensing rights related to online music across borders, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have underlined that the provisions concerning the organisations that manage copyrights should be “less detailed”, as these create unnecessary administrative burdens.

    In the EEA Joint Committee meeting on Friday 1 February, 28 decisions were adopted incorporating 58 legal acts into the EEA Agreement.

  • Making life easier for the smallest companies   01.02.2013

    One of the EU directives incorporated into the EEA Agreement on 1 February 2013 allows national authorities to exempt micro-entities or small companies with less than ten employees from the obligation to publish their annual accounts. It is, however, up to each country to decide whether or not to make use of this option.

  • Wages and working conditions of posted workers need to comply with national law in the receiving country   30.01.2013

    In an EEA EFTA Comment on a proposal for a directive concerning the enforcement of provisions on the posting of workers, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have underlined the clear need to strengthen compliance with the relevant rules, especially to ensure that posted workers’ wages and working conditions are in accordance with national law in the receiving country.

    The Subcommittees met on 22 January 2013 with the European External Action Service (EEAS) and discussed the state of play of acts being considered for incorporation into the EEA Agreement, parliamentary procedures for adopted EEA Joint Committee Decisions and a number of draft EEA Joint Committee Decisions currently under discussion with the EU. An EEA EFTA Comment on the proposal of the European Parliament and of the Council on periodic roadworthiness tests for motor vehicles and their trailers submitted to the EU side on 18 December 2012 was noted.

  • EEA EFTA States will continue to participate fully in EU ETS   03.01.2013

    On 31 December 2012, the EEA EFTA States and the EU adopted three Joint Committee Decisions (JCDs) incorporating five legal acts related to the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) into the EEA Agreement, thereby enabling the Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to continue to participate fully in the ETS and ensuring a smooth transition to the third phase of the system from 1 January 2013.

  • Frequency of periodic vehicle checks should not change   19.12.2012

    In an EEA EFTA Comment to the Commission’s proposal for changes to the EU safety regulation on vehicle checks, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have expressed their opinion that the frequency of periodic testing should remain the same. The proposal will be discussed by EU Transport Ministers tomorrow, 20 December 2012.

  • EFTA Seminar on the EEA: What will the role of the European Economic Area (EEA) be in a multi-speed Europe?   12.12.2012

    The aim of the seminar is to provide professionals, both inside and outside the European Union, with a thorough understanding of the EEA Agreement, which integrates Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway into the EU’s Internal Market.

    The EFTA Standing Comm­ittee and EEA Joint Comm­ittee met in Brussels on 7 December 2012. Norway chaired both the Standing Committee and, on behalf of the EEA EFTA States, the Joint Committee.
