    Members of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and social partners from Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein met in Tartu on 12 and 13 May 2011 for the 19th meeting of the EEA Consultative Committee.

  • EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meets in Longyearbyen, Svalbard   15.04.2011

    Members of the European Parliament and Parliamentarians from Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein met in Longyearbyen from 12 to 14 April 2011 at the 36th meeting of the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee.

  • EFTA social partners discuss EU-EFTA relations and Single Market Act   07.03.2011

    Members of the EFTA Consultative Committee gathered in Brussels from 3 to 4 March 2011 for their first meeting of the year. The Committee focused on the recent EU Council conclusions on EU relations with EFTA countries, and exchanged views on the latest developments on the EU side with Mr Gianluca Grippa from the European External Action Service and Mr Michael Emerson from CEPS.

  • EFTA Parliamentarians discuss future EFTA-EU cooperation   22.02.2011

    The EFTA Parliamentary Committee met in Brussels on 21 February and devoted its meeting to discussing future cooperation with the EU under the EEA and the Swiss-EU Bilateral Agreements. To start off the discussions, the Committee heard presentations from three prominent academics who have devoted their recent work to an analysis of EFTA-EU cooperation.

  • Busy week for EFTA advisory bodies   26.11.2010

    The two EFTA advisory bodies, representing parliamentarians and social partners in the four EFTA countries, met this week in Brussels to discuss latest developments in the EEA before travelling to Geneva for discussions on international trade and EFTA's third-country relations. The EFTA parliamentarians also had meetings with their EU counterparts in Strasbourg (see separate news release).

  • EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting in Strasbourg   26.11.2010

    On 24 and 25 November 2010, parliamentarians from the three EEA EFTA States and the European Parliament met in Strasbourg for the 35th EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee (EEA JPC) meeting. At the meeting, which was observed by a delegation from the Swiss Parliament, the Committee discussed a number of topical issues and adopted two resolution texts.

  • EEA EFTA Forum adopts its first opinion   26.11.2010

    The EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities adopted its first opinion during a meeting in Brussels on 25 and 26 November 2010. The Forum also made formal contacts with the EU's Committee of the Regions.

  • The Single Market moves forward   23.11.2010

    In a joint session of the EFTA Parliamentary and Consultative Committees on 22 November, EFTA parliamentarians and social partner representatives heard a presentation on the draft Single Market Act.

  • Advisory bodies debate with EEA EFTA Ministers   22.11.2010

    On 22 November 2010, a second joint meeting between the Standing Committee of the EFTA States at ministerial level, the Committee of Members of Parliament of the EFTA States (MPS) and the EFTA Consultative Committee, was held in the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels. The foreign ministers had a short briefing after which a lively debate followed. Members of the Committees posed numerous questions to the ministerial side on issues ranging from Europe 2020 to protectionism.

  • EFTA Parliamentarians visit Albania and Serbia   02.11.2010

    During the week of 25-29 October a delegation of parliamentarians from the four EFTA States visited Tirana and Belgrade to participate in a range of meetings with politicians from the two Balkan countries. This autumn the EFTA States and Albania and Serbia have been ratifying their respective free trade agreements.
