EFTA social partners discuss EEA reviews

The members of the EFTA Consultative Committee (EFTA CC) discussed the ongoing reviews of the EEA Agreement when they met on 14 and 15 March in Brussels. As well as hearing a presentation on the Norwegian EEA Review, the EFTA social partners focused on this subject in their annual meeting with the EFTA Standing Committee.

Parliamentarians from EFTA and Indonesia support comprehensive economic partnership

A delegation from the EFTA Parliamentary Committee visited Jakarta, Indonesia, from 7 to 10 February. The main purpose of the visit was to discuss the merits of strengthened EFTA-Indonesia trade relations with legislators, officials and stakeholders, and to support the ongoing negotiations between EFTA and Indonesia on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA).

EFTA Parliamentary Committee discusses Norwegian EEA Review

The Committee of Members of Parliament of the EFTA Countries and the Committee of Members of Parliament of the EFTA States (together “the EFTA Parliamentary Committee”) met in Brussels on 6 February 2012 to discuss the functioning of the EEA, the latest political developments in the EFTA countries and the EU, and to prepare for a visit to Indonesia.

EFTA Consultative Committee discusses Single Market with EU partners

The EFTA Consultative Committee (EFTA CC) has adopted an opinion on "A citizen's approach to the Single Market" which focuses on the need to promote the awareness and confidence of workers, business and consumers in the Single Market. The topic was also the basis for a joint seminar in Oslo on 13 December 2011 with a delegation from the European Economic and Social Committee’s Single Market Observatory (SMO).

EEA EFTA Forum adopts two opinions and meets with EFTA Parliamentary and Consultative Committees

At its fourth meeting, which took place in Brussels on 14 and 15 November 2011, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities adopted two opinions - on public services in the EEA context and on the European Commission’s draft directive on energy efficiency.

Advisory bodies hold lively debate with EEA EFTA Ministers

On 15 November 2011, the Standing Committee of the EFTA States at Ministerial level, the Committee of Members of Parliament of the EFTA States and the EFTA Consultative Committee held a joint meeting at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels. The Foreign Ministers gave a short briefing on the outcome of the EEA Council that had taken place earlier in the afternoon, which was followed by a debate between the Ministers and the members of the two committees.

Delegates discuss experiences from and responses to the economic crisis at EFTA conference

On 16 November, the EFTA Parliamentary and Consultative Committees met for a joint conference on the economic and financial crisis in Europe. Two sessions with distinguished speakers focused first on EU policy responses to the crisis and then on lessons learned from small economies.

EEA EFTA Forum adopts opinions on public procurement and multilevel governance

At its third meeting, which took place in Hamar, Norway, on 31 May and 1 June 2011, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities adopted two opinions - one on the planned revision of the EU Public Procurement Directive and one on multilevel governance in the EEA. The Forum elected Halldór Halldórsson (photo), Icelandic Association of Local Authorities, as its new Chair for the coming year.
