The future of global trade, Brexit and political change on the agenda for EFTA Parliamentary Committee
On 22 March, the EFTA Parliamentary Committee held a full day of meetings to discuss current trade issues with, among others, the European Commissioner for Trade, Ms Cecilia Malmström.
EFTA Consultative Committee and Ambassadors discuss EEA state of play
On 25 January, the EFTA Consultative Committee met with EFTA Ambassadors to the European Union to discuss major developments with regard to the EEA Agreement, the status of Swiss-EU bilateral agreements and the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU.
EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee discusses security cooperation and climate policy
On 14-15 December the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee (EEA JPC) convened in the European Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss several current topics related to the EU and the EEA, including economic and political challenges to the future of the Single Market, security cooperation and EU’s climate policy.
Ministers brief advisory bodies on developments in the EEA
On 15 November 2016, the EFTA Parliamentary and Consultative Committees met with EEA EFTA Ministers in Brussels. This annual meeting takes place in connection with the EEA Council and provides an opportunity for the two advisory bodies to discuss current issues in the EEA with the Ministers.
EFTA Parliamentary Committee visits Vietnam and the Philippines
A delegation from the EFTA Parliamentary Committee visited Vietnam and the Philippines from 3 to 7 October 2016 to promote and support trade cooperation with these countries. The delegation met with parliamentarians, ministers and representatives of both the business community and civil organisations.
EEA EFTA Forum adopts opinions on EU Circular Economy Package and EEA Grants
At its 13th meeting, held in Stykkishólmur, Iceland, on 6 and 7 June 2016, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities (the Forum) adopted two opinions: on the EU Circular Economy Package and implications for local and regional authorities, and on the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021.
EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs in Liechtenstein
The EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee (EEA JPC) held the first of its biannual meetings for 2016 in Vaduz on 19 and 20 May to discuss current topics related to the EU and the EEA, including the European Commission’s Single Market Strategy for Goods and Services, and the collaborative economy.
Social partners adopt resolutions on better regulation and labour mobility
Members of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and social partners from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway met in Vaduz on 19 and 20 May 2016 for the 24th meeting of the EEA Consultative Committee (EEA CC).
EFTA seminar on labour market integration of migrants and refugees
On 9 March, the EFTA Consultative Committee organised a half-day seminar at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels, inviting relevant EFTA working groups and several distinguished speakers to discuss the challenges and best practices for integrating migrants and refugees into the labour market.
