EEA EFTA Forum holds inaugural meeting in Reykjavik
At its first meeting, held in Reykjavik on 22 June 2010, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities elected Mr Halvdan Skard, Municipality of Bærum, Norway, as its first Chair. Mr Skard is also President of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities. He will be assisted by Mr Halldór Halldórsson, President of the Norwegian Association's sister organisation in Iceland, as Vice Chair of the Forum.
EFTA Consultative Committee delegation visit to Croatia
On 20 May 2010, the EFTA social partners undertook a delegation visit to meet with their social partner colleagues in Zagreb, Croatia. The purpose of the visit was to discuss and exchange views on social dialogue and social partnership activities in Croatia, in EFTA, and in the EEA, where the EFTA and Croatian organisations would become partners upon Croatia's accession to the EU.
EEA Consultative Committee in Vaduz
On 18 and 19 May the EEA Consultative Committee held its 18th meeting in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. At the meeting, which was co-chaired by Mr Josef Beck (EFTA CC, Liechtenstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Ms Marja Liisa Peltola (EESC, General Chamber of Commerce of Finland), the Committee dealt with a number of highly important topics that are pertinent to the functioning of the EEA in the near future.
34th EEA JPC in Vaduz
On 29 and 30 March, parliamentarians from the three EEA EFTA States and the European Parliament met in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, for the 34th EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting. At the meeting, which was observed by a delegation from the Swiss Parliament, the Committee discussed a number of topical issues and adopted three resolution texts.
EFTA seminar on employee involvement in times of crisis
The EFTA Working Group on Health and Safety at Work and Labour Law and the EFTA Consultative Committee met on 11 March 2010 to discuss employee involvement in times of crisis and restructuring. Against the backdrop of the current crisis the European Commission gave an overview of the current legal framework for information, consultation and involvement of employees. EU legislation in this field is part of the EEA Agreement.
EFTA Consultative Committee discusses relationship between trade and labour and trade and environment
The EFTA Consultative Committee met yesterday in Brussels to discuss the latest developments in EFTA and the EEA. Members focused especially on international trade issues including EFTA's third country relations, with specific emphasis on the relationship between trade and labour and trade and environment.
