EFTA anniversary stamp published in Liechtenstein

In celebration of EFTA’s 50th anniversary (1960-2010), a stamp has been published in Liechtenstein.

EFTA Ministerial meeting, Reykjavik, 24 June 2010

On 24 June 2010, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) held its summer Ministerial meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland, chaired by Össur Skarphéðinsson, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Iceland. Ministers from the four EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) signed a new Free Trade Agreement with Ukraine, represented by Konstyantin Gryshchenko, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

EFTA, Peru and Ukraine plan to sign free trade agreements in Reykjavik

On 5 June the EFTA Council met for the fifth time in 2010 under the chairmanship of Iceland. It prepared for the Ministerial meeting in Reykjavik in June and discussed relations with countries outside the EU, notably with Russia.

EFTA Council discusses Ministerial meeting and relations with non-EU partner countries

On 17 May the EFTA Council met for the fourth time in 2010 under the chairmanship of Iceland. Discussions took place on preparations for the Ministerial meeting in Reykjavik in June as well as on relations with EFTA partner countries outside the EU, including Ukraine, Mexico and Vietnam.

Anniversary celebrations in Geneva

The entry into force of the EFTA Convention fifty years ago was celebrated at an anniversary event in Geneva on 3 May, which included greetings from John Clarke, chargé d'affaires at the Mission of the European Union, Bozkurt Aran, Ambassador of Turkey, and Einar Gunnarsson, Permanent Secretary of State of the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Iceland currently holds the chairmanship of EFTA.

EFTA Council discusses Ministerial meeting and relations with non-EU countries

On 16 April the EFTA Council met for its third meeting of 2010, under the Icelandic chairmanship. The agenda included a review of relations with non-EU countries and a review of preparations for the upcoming Ministerial meeting in Reykjavik on June 24.

EFTA Council discussed free trade negotiations with Ukraine and plans for summer Ministerial meeting

On 15 March the EFTA Council met for its second meeting of 2010, chaired by Iceland. The agenda included a review of ongoing free trade negotiations with Ukraine, EFTA's anniversary celebrations in May and preparations for the Ministerial meeting in Reykjavik in June.
