Framework partnership agreements on standardisation approved by the EFTA Council

At the second meeting under the Liechtenstein Chair on 26 March 2015, the EFTA Council approved framework partnership agreements with the European Association for the Coordination of Consumer Representation in Standardisation (ANEC) and with the European Environmental Citizens’ Organisation for Standardisation (ECOS).

Charles Müller (1922-2015)

Charles Müller, who served as Assistant Secretary-General (1960 to 1965), Deputy Secretary-General (1965 to 1966) and Secretary-General (1976 to 1981), passed away on 3 March 2015. We remember our former Secretary-General and colleague with gratitude and express our sincere condolences to his family.

EFTA traineeships open for applications

The EFTA traineeships for 2015 are now open for applications. The duration of the traineeships is from 1 September 2015 until 30 June 2016.

Dag W. Holter, new Deputy Secretary-General in Brussels

On 15 January 2015, Mr Dag Wernø Holter of Norway took up the post of Deputy Secretary-General at EFTA’s Brussels office. He will head the Association's work in relation to the management of the Agreement on the European Economic Area.

EFTA approves agreement on deposit of its historical archives

On 8 December, during its final meeting of 2014, the EFTA Council approved the budget for 2015 and an agreement regarding the deposit of EFTA documents over 30 years old at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.

EFTA Ministerial meeting, Geneva, 17 November 2014

On 17 November 2014, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) held its biannual Ministerial Meeting in Geneva. The meeting was chaired by Mr Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Federal Councillor, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland.

Guatemala set to join EFTA-Central America Free Trade Agreement

At its meeting on 6 November 2014, the EFTA Council welcomed the outcome of the concluding round of negotiations between EFTA and Guatemala, paving the way for Guatemala’s accession to the EFTA-Central America Free Trade Agreement. An event to mark the conclusion of these negotiations will take place during the EFTA Ministerial meeting in Geneva on 17 November.

EEA EFTA and EU Ministers reach agreement on European Supervisory Authorities

On 14 October 2014, Finance Ministers from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the European Union announced that a solution had been found on the incorporation of the EU Regulations establishing the European Supervisory Authorities into the EEA Agreement. Joint conclusions were adopted at the annual meeting between EFTA and EU Ministers of Finance and Economy (the “EFTA ECOFIN”) in Luxembourg.
