  • EIB investments in EFTA countries extended for another four years   01.03.2018

    The European Investment Bank (EIB) has extended its lending facilities to the four EFTA countries until 31 December 2021. The investment envelope will also be increased to EUR 1 billion from the previous four-year extension of EUR 800 million.

  • First EFTA Council meeting of 2018   07.02.2018
    Ambassador Harald Aspelund chaired the meeting for Iceland.

    The EFTA Council met for its first meeting in 2018 on 6 February under the Icelandic Chairmanship. The Council approved a number of technical statistical cooperation activities which are coordinated by the EFTA Statistical Office in Luxembourg in close collaboration with Eurostat. Delegates took stock of ongoing free trade negotiations and developments in relations to Brexit.

    On 17 January 2018 Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway submitted a joint EEA EFTA Comment on the public consultation on reporting formalities for ships (European Maritime Single Window environment).

  • EFTA Council adopts the budget for 2018   07.12.2017

    On 7 December, the tenth and last Council of the year under the Liechtenstein chairmanship took place in Geneva. During the meeting, the Council adopted the EFTA budget for 2018, Iceland presented their priorities for the first half of 2018, and the Council discussed work with regard to expanding and developing the EFTA network of Free Trade Agreements.

    The Norwegian Minister of EEA and EU Affairs Marit Berger Røsland shared her thoughts on Brexit, EEA and trade relations.

    Marit Berger Røsland became the Norwegian Minister of EEA and EU Affairs on 20 October 2017, succeeding Frank Bakke-Jensen. In an interview with EFTA's Information Team, she shared her thoughts on the future development of trade relations, areas of improvement for the Internal Market and challenges regarding Brexit.

    On 24 November 2017, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) held its biannual Ministerial meeting in Geneva. The meeting was chaired by Ms Aurelia Frick, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Culture and Education of Liechtenstein.

  • EEA EFTA Forum adopts opinions on European Data Economy and Erasmus for local and regional representatives   17.11.2017
    The EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities met in Brussels to discuss ongoing developments in the European Economic Area.

    At its 16th meeting on 16 and 17 November, the EEA EFTA Forum of Local and Regional Authorities met in Brussels to discuss ongoing developments in the European Economic Area. It adopted two opinions: on the European data economy and on an Erasmus programme for local and regional representatives.

    Brexit on the agenda of the 48th EEA Council.

    The 48th EEA Council will take place on Tuesday 14 November 2017 in Brussels. The EEA Council meets twice a year at ministerial level and provides political impetus for the development of the EEA Agreement.
