From 23 to 24 September 2021 the Online High Level Seminar for the Eastern European, Caucasus and Central Asian (EECCA) countries was organised by EFTA Statistical Office (ESO) and Eurostat in cooperation with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Avis Benes, Head of unit B-3 Enlargement Neighbourhood and Development Cooperation in Eurostat, chaired the high-level seminar. Nine representative of the National Statistical Institutes of the EECCA countries took part in the seminar: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Welcome notes were given by the Deputy Director of Directorate B Standards Cristina Pereira De Sá, ESO Director Volker Täube and the senior statistician and regional adviser Steven Vale from UNECE.
The purpose of this meeting was to talk about future priorities in statistical cooperation and innovation statistics in EECCA countries. The different national statistics institutes provided presentations about their main concerns and their most recent innovation in the national statistical systems. Finally, they expressed their expectations towards statistical cooperation.
