According to Control Risks, an independent British risk consultancy, the four EFTA countries, together with Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Sweden, are the safest countries in the world.
The annual evaluation took into account the frequency of theft, attacks, kidnappings and armed attacks. All EU countries are considered to be low risk, with the exception of Greece and Northern Ireland and parts of southern Italy, which are considered medium risk. Among the extreme-risk countries are Afghanistan, Iraq, Mali, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
