The EFTA Statistical Office (ESO) was created in 1991 in Luxembourg as a liaison office between Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, and the EFTA national statistical institutes. Since then, the combined efforts of ESO and Eurostat have resulted in close and well-functioning cooperation, as well as in the sustained integration of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland into the European Statistical System.
The updated edition of the EFTA/EU Statistical Cooperation Handbook, published in the EFTA Bulletin series, describes the institutional and practical aspects of EFTA statistical cooperation.
EFTA is celebrating the anniversary with a reception and panel discussion on the Statistical Office, past, present & future.
