First EFTA-Lebanon Joint Committee Meeting

Delegations from the EFTA States and Lebanon convened in Beirut on 8 October 2009 for a first Joint Committee meeting to review the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between both sides.

The EFTA-Lebanon Joint Committee met in Beirut on 8 October 2009. The meeting was chaired by Ms Lama Oueijan (left on the picture), from the Lebanese Ministry of Trade, while Ms Anniken Mordal (right on the picture), Norway, was the spokesperson for the EFTA delegation. The discussions were amicable and informative.

The Parties discussed the implementation of the Agreement and reviewed current trade figures. The Joint Committee adopted four decisions which will improve market access for certain agricultural products and bring the Free Trade Agreement in line with the current international tariff nomenclature (HS 2007).

The EFTA-Lebanon Free Trade Agreement entered into force on 1 January 2007. Total trade between EFTA and Lebanon is estimated at USD 700 million a year.
