Published 09-07-2020

Heads of delegation from EFTA and Vietnam convened by videoconference on 7 July 2020. Building on experts’ exchanges and videoconferences on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Government Procurement (GP) and Trade in Goods (TiG), the Heads of delegation discussed the state of play and open issues in the free trade negotiation process, which started in 2012. Exchanges and follow-ups on these topics were agreed in order to make further progress in this process.

Sveinung Røren, Director at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, acted as the EFTA spokesperson while the Vietnamese delegation was led by Mr Luong Hoang Thai, Director General at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Merchandise trade between the EFTA States and Vietnam reached over USD 4 billion in 2019. The EFTA States exported goods valued at USD 1 billion and imported goods worth USD 3 billion.
