On 17 October 2022, Heads of delegation from the EFTA States and Mercosur met by videoconference to discuss the way forward in resolving issues related to the legal review prior to the signature of the EFTA-Mercosur Free Trade Agreement.
Jan Farberg, Director General at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, acted as the EFTA spokesperson, while Sergio Iaciuk, National Director for International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship in Argentina, headed the Mercosur delegation.
Total trade between EFTA and Mercosur amounted to USD 5.7 billion in 2021, of which USD 3.3 billion was exported to Mercosur and USD 2.4 billion was imported into the EFTA States. Read more about merchandise trade between EFTA and Partner here.
