The Committee, established under the EFTA-Kosovo Joint Declaration on Cooperation (JDC), convened its first meeting on 19 November 2020 via videoconference.

The Committee reviewed developments in bilateral trade and investment flows, exchanged information on activities in the field of preferential trade agreements and discussed the next steps towards starting negotiations for a free trade agreement next year.

The Kosovar delegation was headed by Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Vesel Krasniqi, together with Head of Free Trade Department, Ms Sytrime Dervisholli. Ms Karin Büchel, Head of Free Trade Agreements at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs in Switzerland acted as spokesperson for the EFTA States.

The JDC between the EFTA States and Kosovo was signed in November 2018. In 2019, EFTA-Kosovo merchandise trade (imports and exports) amounted to EUR 77 million and trade figures show a steady increase over the last decade.
