Talks focused on outstanding issues in areas such as trade in goods, rules of origin, trade in services, intellectual property rights and sustainable development, as well as horizontal and institutional matters. Interaction at the level of heads of delegation and experts will be pursued throughout the coming weeks with the objective of finalising the negotiations in the near future.
The EFTA delegation was led by State Secretary Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch from Switzerland, while Shri Rajeev Kher, Additional Secretary in India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, led the Indian side.
In 2012, EFTA’s merchandise trade with India amounted to USD 5.3 billion. Trade in services and direct investment between the two sides also stand at significant levels.
