EFTA and Albania promote exports under Free Trade Agreement

Published 15-03-2011
At two Export Promotion seminars held in Tirana and Shkodra on 10 and 11 March 2011, Albanian businesses were informed on how to use the EFTA-Albania Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to enhance their exports to the EFTA markets.

Organised jointly by EFTA and Albania, the seminars focused on making the FTA between the two sides better known by Albania's business community and on promoting exports to the EFTA States.

At the seminars, EFTA experts explained how to use the preferential conditions under the FTA, by covering technical as well as practical aspects regarding access to the EFTA markets. Business opportunities for Albanian exporters were discussed during the sessions and in informal contacts.

The FTA entered into force on 1 November 2010 for Albania, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Iceland and Norway will join the free trade zone after completion of their ratification procedures, expected in the course of 2011. The value of total EFTA-Albania merchandise trade amounted to USD 40 million in 2010.
