
Iceland will chair the Standing Committee for the second half of 2010. The Icelandic delegate presented the Work Programme and underlined the importance of continuing to follow horizontal issues in the EEA such as the Europe 2020 and the relaunch of the Single Market. Furthermore, work on streamlining procedures will continue, making work within the EEA more efficient.
The outgoing Liechtenstein Chair presented the final report for the first half of the year. The Director of the FMO, Ms Stine Andresen, briefed the Committee on the Annual Report of the EEA Financial Mechanism for April 2009 to May 2010, and the Chair of Subcommittees I-IV, Per Sjaastad, provided an overview of the ongoing review of the working groups in the EEA EFTA structure. He said that the review would be finalised in early autumn and a final report would be presented to the Standing Committee.
In the Joint Committee 15 decisions were adopted incorporating 32 legal acts, ad referendum by 10.00 on 2 July 2010.
Finally, members of the Committee bid farewell to HSH Prince Nikolaus von Liechtenstein who is leaving his post as the Ambassador for Liechtenstein to Belgium and the EU.
