The EFTA Standing Committee and EEA Joint Committee met in Brussels on 30 April. Iceland chaired the Standing Committee and represented the EEA EFTA States in the Joint Committee under the chairmanship of the European External Action Service.

The Standing Committee took note of the report from the Norwegian delegation on the visit by the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs to Brussels, and the reports on the planned arrangements to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the EEA Agreement on 2 May, which include a seminar in Porto to be arranged by the Norwegian Embassy in Portugal, an international panel discussion in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, and the biannual EFTA seminar, which will take place on 14 and 15 September 2012.

Finally, the EEA EFTA states adopted a decision introducing a new procedure for the processing of acquis into the EEA agreement. The new measures are designed to make the process for incorporating EU acts into the EEA agreement more efficient.

In the Joint Committee meeting, 29 decisions were adopted incorporating 59 legal acts into the EEA Agreement. One of the decisions, which incorporate the European Critical Infrastructure Directive into the EEA-agreement, is described in more detail in a separate news item on this website.
