Published 11-02-2011
The EFTA Standing and EEA Joint Committees met on 10 and 11 February 2011, respectively. In the Standing Committee the EEA EFTA States prepared for the meeting of the EEA Joint Committee and discussed the decisions to be adopted into the EEA Agreement, which included energy saving requirements for lightbulbs and other electrical equipment, and a regulatory framework on common rules in the field of civil aviation security providing harmonised aviation security rules across the European Union.

Delegates then gave an overview of recent high level meetings. The Liechtenstein Ambassador briefed the Standing Committee on the official visit of the Polish Prime Minister to Liechtenstein, and the Icelandic delegate informed delegations about the meeting between the Icelandic Minister of Economic Affairs and Commissioner Olli Rehn. Following this, the Norwegian Ambassador briefed the Standing Committee on the Norwegian Prime Minister’s official visit to Hungary, and the Swiss delegate discussed the Swiss President’s official visit to Brussels.

In the Joint Committee meeting, five decisions incorporating 14 legal acts were adopted.

The transfer of powers from the Commission to the European External Action Service (EEAS) to adopt EEA Joint Committee Decisions (JCDs) is being completed within the European Union. The EEA EFTA States urged the EEAS to clear the transfer of powers from the Commission to the EEAS in order to be able to adopt the remaining EEA JCDs by written procedure as soon as possible.
