EFTA Seminar – presentation of the report by the Norwegian EEA Review Committee

Published 20-01-2012
On 19 January 2012, a record 170 participants from both the public and private sectors attended the EFTA Secretariat’s biannual seminar on the EEA. The first part of the seminar was dedicated to presentations on the EFTA Secretariat, the EFTA Court, the EFTA Surveillance Authority, the EFTA Statistical Office and the EFTA Financial Mechanism Office. These focused on the day-to-day management of the EEA Agreement in the different institutions’ respective areas of competence.

The highlight of the seminar was arguably the last session, which was devoted entirely to the presentation of the report “Inside and Outside – Norway’s agreements with the European Union” by the Norwegian EEA Review Committee. The report was made public in Norway just two days before and generated tremendous interest in Brussels in both EFTA and EU circles, as illustrated by the high number of participants. The Chairman of the Review Committee, Fredrik Sejersted, and the Committee’s Secretary, Ulf Sverdrup, offered a comprehensive overview of the various findings of the 911-page report. This was followed by a rich and lively discussion between the speakers and participants, which can be viewed below.

EFTA would like to thank all the speakers and participants for making the seminar a success.
